On the first Wednesday of every month, I’m going to pull together some inspirations and resources I have around and make some sweet desktop wallpapers. It’s usually just going to be one or two at a time. They will be all over the place, from type related to whatever cool pattern I might be digging at the moment. Ampersand Love
So there’s a good story about this wallpaper. It starts with the following post which led me to the font Black and White. The pictures looked really good and I absolutely loved the ampersand. I put together the wallpaper — using Gill Sans Ultra Bold with all of its awesome personality for the text. Then as I went back to check out some more about the design and designer and see what else he might have done, I find out he just ripped off another font. Here’s the twist. As I look through the glyphs of the font he pirated, this ampersand isn’t in there. It’s not the default nor listed as an alternate. I’m guessing it might also be pirated but I couldn’t find a match. So in the end, go check out Calypso I as a great display font with tons of OpenType niceties.
